Forgiveness is not about letting someone off the hook, and saying 'it's OK'. It is not about forgetting and moving on. It's not about excusing the harm or reconciling with the person who hurt us.
The real forgiveness is about choosing not to hold the grudge. It's about freeing yourself of resentment, hate, desire for revenge. It's about the willingness to see the other person for more than what they did to hurt us. It's about releasing your own emotional burdens, and really has nothing to do with another person.
Why is it important to forgive?
* It brings peace - keeping pain, anger, hurt in our hearts will continue to harm us. It has empowering and healing effect by getting out of victim mode.
* It's liberating - holding onto old hurt it's like dragging a bag of heavy rocks wherever you go. The energy we invested in certain person /situation can be moved to someone / something positive.
* It is moving forward on spiritual path. It encourages compassion, it's an act of kindness and goodness. * According to studies forgiving has proven health benefits.
Moving from angry feelings to positive emotions can be a lot harder than it sounds.
